agora: a public open space used for assemblies and markets
polis: a city state in ancient Greece, especially as considered in its ideal form for philosophical purposes
socrates: Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher credited as one of the founders of Western philosophy, and as being the first moral philosopher of the Western ethical tradition of thought
socratic method: is a form of cooperative argumentative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and underlying presuppositions.
what happened in 508 bc ancient greece: Democracy is introduced in Athens by Cleisthenes. He establishes a constitution and is often called the "Father of Athenian Democracy". This is one of the great accomplishments of the Greek culture
the death of socrates: Socrates was accused of refusing to recognize the gods recognized by the state and of corrupting the youth. He was sentenced to death by drinking poison, he would drink it.
What did it mean when the ancient greeks called you an idiot: Those who did not contribute to politics and the community were known as “Idiotes” If you did not demonstrate social responsibility and political awareness you were considered apathetic, uneducated and ignorant.
